OVERVIEW OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF VOLUNTARY COUNSELING
AND TESTING (VCT) PROGRAM TO GROUP OF HIGH RISK HIV/AIDS
INFECTED AT KHATULISTIWA ANONYMOUS VCT CENTER POLYCLINIC,
PONTIANAK

ABSTRACT

Background: Within the past 20 years the number of HIV/AIDS patients has reached
more than 60 million people. HIV/AIDS has become epidemy in nearly 190 countries.
Indonesia as a country of concentrated level epidemy needs a prevention program which
involves public health approach. One effort is through Voluntary Counseling and Testing
(VCT).

Objective: To get an overview on the implementation of VCT program at Khatulistiwa
Anonymous VCT Center Polyclinic, Pontianak.

Method: This was a descriptive study with cross sectional design. Samples were
purposively taken. Subject of the study was HIV infected risk group visiting Khatulistiwa
Anonymous VCT Center Polyclinic. Data were obtained from observation and indepth
interview. There were 5 respondents.

Result: Average VCT examination flow was good (50%), using one door setting.
Average pretest counseling phase was very good (84.4%). Average blood examination
phase was not adequate (30%). Average post test counseling phase was very good
(100%).

Conclusion: The implementation VCT examination flow was good, pre test counseling
phase was very good, blood examination phase was not adequate and post test counseling
phase was very good.
